Policies to be Decommissioned

The following University Policies are under consideration to be decommissioned.  When a Policy is decommissioned it is no longer in effect.  Members of the University community have 28 calendar days to provide feedback on the proposal to decommission these policies. All submitted feedback is sent to the Policy Office for consideration. Please provide that feedback at the following at this link

Policy AO 40, U-PARC, and its corresponding procedure has been identified for potential decommissioning because the University has sold that property and the Policy can no longer be enforced.

Policy AC 09, Certification of English Language Fluency for Teaching was last updated in 1991. The policy establishes the responsibility of the University to determine that all individuals who teach possess adequate English language fluency for teaching and complies with the Commonwealth’s English Fluency in Higher Education Act. Since 1991, the responsibility and process of assessing TA/TFs’ English language fluency at the University has changed and the current policy is no longer aligned with current practice. The policy and related procedure refer multiple times to the English Language Institute (ELI), which was closed by the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences. Currently, the Office of the Provost is providing many of the former ELI services, such as testing international TA/TFs’ language proficiency. Additionally, best practices for assessing the English language proficiency of instructors have changed over the past 24 years, and the policy/procedures should be updated to reflect current best practices.”

Policy AC 31, Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress, has been identified for potential decommissioning because its processing requirements are mandated by regulation to Financial Aid Offices, the process is centralized, and the process is described on the Office of Financial Aid’s website (Satisfactory Academic Progress - Financial Aid | University of Pittsburgh).
