As the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Policy Development and Management, Tom Hitter manages the activities of the Policy Office and oversees the creation, review, revision, publishing, and decommission of University Policies, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and best practices in higher education. He works closely with senior leadership in developing and implementing long-term policy strategy for the University and provides guidance on policy development and interpretation.
Prior to joining the University in November 2017, Tom served as Associate General Counsel in the Office of Management and Budget at the White House. In this capacity, Tom provided legal advice and counsel to agency leadership. His portfolio included assisting in the development of policies the agency used to execute its responsibilities in managing the Federal government and acting as agency counsel for litigation and investigations. Earlier in his career Tom served as an attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice and clerked for an Administrative Law Judge in the U.S. Department of Labor.
